Ruthorin is a UCI chess engine — the improved and substantially reworked successor of RuthIron.
Current version: 1.9.9
Estimated strength: ~3470–3530 Elo
Protocol: UCI (works with Arena, CuteChess, Banksia, Nibbler, en-croissant and any UCI GUI)
What is Ruthorin?
Ruthorin started as an evolution of RuthIron and has since been rebuilt around a modern NNUE evaluation and a heavily refined alpha-beta search. The legacy ML support that RuthIron carried has been removed entirely — dropping it simplified the engine and directly translated into higher blitz ratings.
Beyond raw strength, Ruthorin is deliberately tuned to play human-like, aggressive and attacking chess. It actively steers toward initiative and king attacks rather than dry technical play, which makes it especially enjoyable — and especially useful — as an analysis partner for your own games. Using Ruthorin for game analysis is strongly recommended: it tends to point out the aggressive resources a human attacker would look for.
