Changes in version 1.4:
1. various small modifications to search and evaluation, resulting in approximately +30 ELO. 
2. engine can now change size of main transposition table on the fly, using Xboard protocol command "memory N". Size of TT is rounded to nearest power of 2. 
3. engine can now use 3-4-5 piece syzygy endgame bit-bases and table-bases. Path of syzygy tables can be passed to the engine using Xboard protocol command "egbpath TYPE PATH". On engine start-up it is also taken from environmental variables DTZDIR and WDLDIR, for DTZ and WDL tables respectively. 
4. parallel search is now more advanced, allowing multiple active split-points at the same time. This should improve performance on 8 and more CPU cores (sadly, performance on 4 cores is mostly unchanged, aside from increased strength of single core engine).

We already have the new Fritz 20 program - what does it look like and how does it work?

The purchase process for the download version on the ChessBase website took only 5 minutes. Downloading the files from the cloud was even quicker. The installation itself, which involved five large files, took maybe 7 minutes, including restarting the system and entering the serial number I received upon purchase. The start image for Fritz 20 has a strange mosaic of colors; perhaps I'll get used to it. As you can see in the second screenshot, the program interface hasn't changed much; only the icons are different (we've been using Fritz 17 until now). It looks nice, but it's no major revolution. The next two screenshots show engine management and the installation of the UCI chess engine (here, Cataphract 1.1). As you can see, there are no changes. Screenshot no. 5 shows the analysis of some position by Fritz 20 engines. The changes are minimal - it is still very legible.
