How do I run it?
This project is a UCI chess engine, which means that it does not contain an interface/gui, but is purely text-based. You can either run it from the command prompt via `java -jar lila.jar` or use a chess GUI.

      Unfortunately, the winboard project is no longer being developed for (probably?)

    You have already stated the answer in your question: Use the command prompt or a chess GUI. For example, you could download a chess gui called ChuteChess from here: https://cutechess.com/. Either way, you will also need to install Java, since that is the language in which this engine is built.

The purchase process for the download version on the ChessBase website took only 5 minutes. Downloading the files from the cloud was even quicker. The installation itself, which involved five large files, took maybe 7 minutes, including restarting the system and entering the serial number I received upon purchase. The start image for Fritz 20 has a strange mosaic of colors; perhaps I'll get used to it. As you can see in the second screenshot, the program interface hasn't changed much; only the icons are different (we've been using Fritz 17 until now). It looks nice, but it's no major revolution.
