Astra 6.1.1 wins League Qualifiers - Amateur Group E01 Season 06/2025 (2025.08.18-20)

The competition concluded with the E1 group of amateur and newer chess engine versions. Since this was the highest qualifying group, the engines that took the top four places advanced to the TOP-64 and will play in the 3rd Elite Chess Engine League next season.

The following engines advanced: Astra 6.1.1, Lambergar 1.2, StockDory Starfish 0.1, and Monty-dev-20241209. Congratulations!

The bottom four engines in the table were relegated to the lower group: Saxton 1.0.0, Flounder 0.5.0.2, Polaris 1.8.1, and RukChess 4.0.1. The latter engine had trouble launching in the Aquarium GUI.

We already have the new Fritz 20 program - what does it look like and how does it work?

The purchase process for the download version on the ChessBase website took only 5 minutes. Downloading the files from the cloud was even quicker. The installation itself, which involved five large files, took maybe 7 minutes, including restarting the system and entering the serial number I received upon purchase. The start image for Fritz 20 has a strange mosaic of colors; perhaps I'll get used to it. As you can see in the second screenshot, the program interface hasn't changed much; only the icons are different (we've been using Fritz 17 until now). It looks nice, but it's no major revolution. The next two screenshots show engine management and the installation of the UCI chess engine (here, Cataphract 1.1). As you can see, there are no changes.
