Another tournament of new versions of chess engines and the "benchmark" Critter engine. Four chess engines: SF PB 280924, Rems EXP 160824, Rems 150824 and CorChess 20240927 scored the same number of points, taking places 1-4. It is worth noting the quite good result of the new version of the Pedantic 2.1.0 engine. More results of our tests soon, we invite you to our website. New chess engine: Sapling 1.1.5 (Windows, MacOs and Linux)

Image
Sapling , a  strong dotnet UCI Chess engine [BETA].  Author: Tim Jones Sapling is still in active development so expect certain features to be missing or experimental. Also the current release is using a NNUE net trained from self play starting with random weights and is only 13 iterations deep, expect the engine to be much stronger in the coming days as the training does takes a while. Requirements - Sapling makes use of hardware intrinsics to improve performance. Currently your CPU must support: `Avx2`, `Bmi1`, `Bmi2`, `Popcnt`, `Sse`. Most modern hardware shipped after 2013 should be supported. - The releases come with a bundled version of the dotnet runtime, however if you want to run from source you'll need the dotnet 8 SDK installed. v.1.1.5: Optimised command loop thread  Sapling 1.1.5 download Sapling 1.1.5 for MacOs download

Chess engine: Plisco 0.4 JA

Image
Chess Plisco is a representation of a chess position in Perl. It also contains a UCI compatible chess engine. You can challenge the engine most of the time at https://lichess.org/@/plisco-bot. It only works with Perl versions that are compiled with support for 64 bit integers!  The software is stable but still considered work in progress. Since it is reasonably fast and offers a lot of functionality needed for chess engines, it can be used for rapid prototyping of a chess engine. Writing a basic implementation of the AlphaBeta algorithm with Chess::Plisco will not require more than 30 lines of code. The library also has a very high test coverage so that you can probably use it as a reference implementation for your own experiments and tests.
